A case of the zoomies-and the flower vase craft

Keeping a child’s attention can be SO difficult. I have seen hummingbirds that move slower and less erratic than a toddler lol. Conversations with my grandson are often held as he does laps around his balance beams.

As a grandma (GiGi to my grands) I am constantly on the lookout for good ideas to help me spend quality time with them and calm the zoomies for a few minutes. Bonus if they might (accidentally) learn something! Just a few minutes of focus and fun goes a long way.

So far my oldest grand doesn’t seem quite ready for games. -By the way when did the Lucky Ducks game stop quacking? I remember that being SOO annoying when I played with my kiddos, but when I got the game for my grandson, it is silent and I was so very disappointed. He would have loved that loud quacking.-

But back to the subject, he isn’t quite ready for games so that leaves tactile things like play dough and kinetic sand. Looking at a picture book has been a favorite since he was tiny. But a toddler’s attention span is short and I need a list of things handy to keep the fun going.

With Spring upon us, here is something I am going to try soon and thought I might share it: You can grab a free printout to use here : Flower Vase Printout

Paper Vase for Flowers

Supplies:

2 sheets of paper, construction or other is fine.

Scissors (Adults can cut the vase out or guide their child)

Crayons, Markers, Paint or anything else for your child to decorate the vase

Non-toxic glue, preferably fairly quick dry.

Cut one sheet of paper into a vase shape of your desired shape and size (folding the paper in half here can make it easier to keep it symmetrical)

Put a line of glue along the outer edge of one side of your vase but leaving the top of the vase shape without so that flowers, etc. can be slipped inside.

Lay your vase shape glue side down onto the second sheet of paper. Let dry at least until it isn’t easily moved when kiddos decorate.

Let your child decorate it to their hearts content then they can pick flowers, leaves, small branches, anything they like to put into their vase art.

If you try this with your children, comment on the post on my Facebook page, I would love to see pics!
